Tongayi Chirisa is a name that needs very little introduction in showbiz and entertainment circles. The Hollywood based Zimbabwean actor has been gracing the small and big screen for almost two decades and continues to dazzle audiences worldwide.
Blessed with inimitable talent and a rigorous work ethic, the 38-year old award winning actor has been making giant strides in his career with milestones that have flown the Zimbabwean flag high and brought him acclaim. Our Person of the Week shot to fame in a number of local theatre and TV productions including Zimbabwe’s first locally produced soap Studio263 as Detective Trevor Davies. The actor never looked back from there on going on to star in many feature films locally and internationally as he broadened his resume and fanbase.
The talented actor scored another win as it was announced that he is going feature on the Netflix hit show Another Life as a series regular in season 2 after a recurring role in the first season. Another Life is a sci-fi space drama revolving around an astronaut on a search for alien intelligence. Tongayi Chirisa appears as a decorated mission veteran called Richard Ncube on the series and is expected to bring the goods as always on the screen.
Chirisa is a versatile actor who has tackled various roles ranging from the dramatic to comedy due to his dynamic skillset. He is also a multiple threat with music and poetry going along with his acting talents.
Chirisa’s star has been on a rise and he is set to own 2020 with scheduled release of potential blockbuster film projects namely; Palm Springs and Antebellum in July and August respectively. The actor features in the romcom Palm Springs as Jerry and following hot on the heels will be the August release of the horror flick Antebellum starring singer and actress Janelle Monae with Chirisa as Archie.
He has been consistently attaining career highs such as starring in what went on to become then-South Africa’s highest grossing film Mr Bones 2 as King Hekule alongside Leon Schuster. Eight years later Chirisa would turn in another critical and commercial success with Happiness is a Four-Letter Word. He hasn’t rested on his laurels and recently released a gospel song and video called No Man last month.
The transformation from Zimbabwe’s golden boy to being the ultimate leading man has further cemented Chirisa’s legendary status. His impressive filmography features TV and film credits including Tanyaradzwa, Crusoe, The Jim Gaffigan Show, Whipping Boy, Sleepy Hollow and notable guest appearances in hit TV series such as NCIS: Los Angeles, The Good Doctor and Hawaii Five-0 among others.
